How to Get Rid of the Dog in Your Home
Dogs are no strangers to the Washington Square Park.
But the park’s newest addition, a new petting zoo, is the first of its kind in the country.
The petting area is only available to members of the public and is not part of the regular public park hours.
“We are just trying to keep the parks vibe alive,” said Amy Hensley, senior director of operations for the Washington Park Association, a non-profit that operates the petting park.
The park’s website has been updated to note that petting will be prohibited for all pets.
In the future, the zoo will feature a petting lounge and petting booths, according to the park.
“If you are in the neighborhood, or you know people who live in the area, you can see them all over the park,” Hensly said.
Dogs will be allowed to play at the park in designated areas, but will not be allowed inside.
The new pet zone is expected to open in the spring, and Hensy said it will be accessible to all.
Animal Adventure Park in Washington Square was built in the 1970s as a playground for kids and adults.
The facility has been in operation for nearly three decades and has been a favorite for many families.
The Washington Square Petting Zoo opened in early 2018.
It is a small, family-friendly facility.
“We don’t really know what the future holds for Washington Square,” Hensen said.
“But if you look at the history of Washington Square, the first park opened in 1864.
We hope it can be part of that history.”
